Hot BBQ Grills and Items for the Summer

4. July 2008 | Kategorie restaurant | 0 Kommentare »

As the spring and summer seasons are upon us, many of us turn our thoughts to being outdoors and firing up the BBQ. If you are BBQ addicted, as many men and women are that we know, you are always looking for an excuse to fire up the grill and try a new recipe or make an old favorite.

For the BBQ connessoir, this is your lucky time of year. This is one of the best times of year to shop for the newest and best BBQ equipment and to surf the web for new BBQ and grilling recipes.

So, go window shopping, but if your old equipment can last a bit longer, you might want to wait before making any purchases. Most stores begin putting out BBQ equipment when there is still 2 feet of snow on the ground. They know how to get you. You are tired of the cold weather and are ready to be outside in your bare feet and shorts hovering over your grill.

As you have this dream of being outside calling you to the store, many of you will pay full price for everything. The trick is to be patient. Just as the stores put these items out early for you to buy, it won’t be long before they start putting these items on sale and even clearance. For many stores, July 4th seems to be the magical date. Once this day passes, you will slowly begin to see stores marking down their BBQ and grilling equipment. This means, you might be able to buy a new grill or grilling equipment for 30%-50% off and still have about 3-4 months of prime grilling time left depending on where you live.

If, however, the BBQ bug has bit you and you just feel like there is no way that you can wait until July to buy some new grilling items, we encourage you to check out an online auction site for new or nearly new items at awesome prices. You see, just as you feel the need to buy something new to curb your BBQ habit, others feel the same way too. They are trying to clear out the old and bring in the new, which might make it your lucky day.

Listen up you BBQ kings and queens, there is a way you can have your BBQ and eat it too. Try to be patient and wait for sale or clearance items to begin showing up at your store. If you must buy something now, look online for deals on new or nearly new items. You will be outside grilling and barbecuing with all kinds of new gadgets before you know it.

Choosing Foods For Your Special Event

3. July 2008 | Kategorie restaurant | 0 Kommentare »

Choosing the right menu for a special event can be just as important as choosing a location. Food can communicate a theme, convey a feeling or set the mood of an entire night. If you are planning a high-class extravaganza, hot dogs and beer might not be appropriate. However, they might be the perfect choice for a birthday party at the lake. Taking great care in planning a menu shows your guests how much you appreciate them, and a great meal can help make a special day even more memorable.

If you are planning a birthday party for your child, an interactive meal can be a fun activity for your guests. Rather than slaving away in the kitchen all day or spending countless dollars ordering pizzas, you can save time and money by letting the guests make their own special creations. One fun idea is to prepare a multitude of toppings and let the children make their own bagel or English muffin pizzas. They will have a blast piling on strange combinations of toppings, and they will enjoy feeling like grown-ups in the kitchen.

For a more formal occasion like a holiday party, finger foods can be great for mingling guests, and they can be great topics of conversation. The obligatory finger sandwich can be spiced up by adding your own special pesto or cheese spread to an already tried and true recipe. Experiment with different ingredients in the weeks prior to the party, and test them out on your family. You will know when you get the reaction you are looking for, and you might end up spending much of the party writing down your recipe for your guests.

Planning a menu for a wedding can be quite stressful, especially when you are not sure exactly how many guests will be attending. The rule of thumb is that too much is better than not enough, even if it means having a lot of food left over at the end of the night. You can choose to have a buffet-style dinner, or you can have a set menu for your guests. It is important to consider your guests with special dietary needs. You should have vegetarian and low-sodium alternatives to your main courses, and you should have a heart-healthy menu for those who must avoid foods with high fat contents.

Before attempting a large-scale meal, you should make all of the dishes several times to perfect your recipes. Your goal is to have guests asking for more even after it all runs out. Test your creations on a variety of people and make adjustments according to their suggestions. When cooking food from your own recipes, it is important to remember the details of what you did every time you make it. That way you will know what went wrong when something turns out horrible, and more importantly what went right when you receive raving reviews.

Planning portions is the most important part of catering your own party. Though most recipes tell you how many people they will feed, it is best to err on the side of caution. If a recipe feeds eight, you might want to count it as six or seven, depending on how many guests you expect. Plan that half of your guests will want to go back for seconds. If you know that one dish will be a favorite, be sure to make extra. Though the green beans may be the healthier option, you can usually bet that the cheesecake will go a lot quicker. Keep in mind that the greater the variety, the more people you will please, so even if you are a steamed vegetable lover, you should probably prepare some beefy options for your less than health conscious guests.

What to Eat When Heartburn Is a Problem

2. July 2008 | Kategorie restaurant | 0 Kommentare »

If you have a tendency to get heartburn, you may need to keep a food diary or a “heartburn” diary in order to determine exactly what foods trigger your symptoms. Physicians and other experts do suggest certain foods not to eat with heartburn and things to eat with heartburn. Food is not the only factor that can bring on heartburn. Stress, smoking, alcoholic, caffeinated and carbonated beverages may all lead to heartburn. Large meals, eating too quickly, exercising or going to bed too soon after eating may all lead to heartburn. If avoiding certain foods does not help to prevent heartburn, you may need to look at the other causes.

Most of the foods not to eat with heartburn are fatty, fried, spicy or highly acidic. Oranges and tomatoes are examples of highly acidic foods. Choosing things to eat with heartburn tendencies is not that complicated, if you can avoid fatty, fried, spicy and acidic foods.

Meats that may bring on heartburn are those that are fried, have a lot of visible fat or that have been flavored with garlic or onion. Pork and bacon are examples of foods not to eat with heartburn tendencies. Grilled or baked white meat chicken or fish are examples of things to eat with heartburn problems.

When it comes to vegetables, most are safe, unless you add butter or other oils. Broccoli, cauliflower, peas, green beans, carrots and spinach are just some examples of things to eat with heartburn tendencies. Vegetables that have a tendency to bring on heartburn include tomatoes, onions and peppers. These are commonly accepted as foods not to eat with heartburn. Rhubarb has even been known to relieve symptoms of heartburn. Chewing on a chunk of rhubarb is a folk remedy for treating heartburn and indigestion.

How about fruits? Fruits are important in the diet and most can be things to eat with heartburn tendencies, except citrus fruits. Apples and bananas are better choices than oranges and tangerines.

Most dairy products are safe, unless they are high in fat. Whole fat cheeses are foods not to eat with heartburn tendencies. Low fat cottage cheese, low fat milk and yogurt are examples of things to eat with heartburn problems.

When planning a menu, it is important to look at spices as well as foods not eat with heartburn and things to eat with heartburn. Garlic may bring on heartburn, while gingerroot has a tendency to relieve heartburn, so it stands to reason that adding ginger for flavor will not bring on heartburn.

None of this is meant to take the place of your physician’s advice. Chronic heartburn symptoms should be evaluated by your doctor. Changing diet alone may not be enough to relieve or prevent heartburn. Foods that cause heartburn in some people do not cause heartburn in everyone. Neither are the foods mentioned a complete list of foods not to eat with heartburn or things to eat with heartburn, this article is simply an accumulation of personal experience and experts recommendations.
